Christmas Book Shopping List

Christmas Book Shopping List

In case you are stumped for good book purchase ideas, here are a few sites to consider various titles and genres:

Grade Four Titles

Newberry Award Winners 2014 – appropriate for most grade fours

Caldecott Award Winners 2014 – Grade Three

Best Books – Grade 3-5

We are currently reading “The True Gift” , in class by Patricia Maclachlan.  Other books written by her may be a hit as students usually become interested in an author through a read aloud.

Descriptive Writing Finale!

Descriptive Writing Finale!

Students worked really hard all week to produce their descriptive writing pieces. Monday was a planning day, Tuesday /Wednesday was time for writing, revising and conferencing around their rough drafts and Thursday was the day to write up their final, polished pieces. Today we shared these with our peers and engaged in purposeful discussion on what we did well and what our next steps are. The students definitely considered all of their learning.

Take a look at a few pieces from grade fours and threes as a model of level 3 and 4 work. The fours were asked to write about their literature circles books and the threes described a topic of their choice.

Secret Santa!

Secret Santa!

This holiday season our class will be sharing in the spirit of the season with a secret santa gift exchange.  Each student will choose a name of someone in the classroom to buy a gift of $5 or more for.  This is a great opportunity to think about someone else in the classroom and their interests and have their store bought or home made gift reflect their personality.  I would ask that all gifts be brought into school on or before Wednesday, December 17th.
