Last Week: June 24th-28th

Dear Parents,

I give back your child this week, the same child you confidently entrusted to my care last fall.  I give them back pounds heavier, inches taller, months wiser, more responsible, and more mature than they were then.

Although they would have attained this growth in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch their personality unfold day by day.  I give them back reluctantly, for having spent nine months together in the narrow confines of a crowded classroom, we have grown close, have become a part of each other, and we shall always retain a little of each other.

Ten years from now, if we met on the street, your child and I, a light will shine to our eyes, a smile to our face, and we shall feel the bond of understanding once more, this bond we feel today.

Remember that I shall always be interested in your child and their destiny, wherever they go, whatever they do, whomever they become. It has been my pleasure to spend each day with your children this year!

Mrs. Laws

June 10th – 14th

June 10th – 14th

Three more weeks left of school!  It’s hard to believe that the year is coming to a close and Friday’s Fun Fair was certainly a great way to celebrate the coming of summer.  It was lovely to see alot of my students enjoying themselves at the Fair.

This week at school is a busy one with Bike Rodeo on Thursday ,Jump Rope for Heart on the Friday as well as the Touch a truck event on Saturday. Should be a great week for the students. Thursday at Break 1, will also be primary Talent Show auditions for our talent show taking place on Tuesday, June 25th.

In class, we are also busy finishing up our unit on Fractions and our Science unit on Strong and Stable Structures.  We had an interesting experiment on Thursday of last week where we tested the strength and stablility of various tower designs and discussed how struts and ties assist a structure to hold more of a load. The students had fun problem solving and it was great to see such excellent teamwork and cooperation in the classroom.

This week we will also begin to learn cursive writing.  Although this is currently no longer in the Ontario Curriculum, it’s a skill I would like to see all my students in Grade three leave the classroom knowing.  Certainly something to keep practising over the summer months.

FRACTION SUNDAES

FRACTION SUNDAES

IMG_0360[1]

As our last math unit this year for Grade Three, we are learning about how to describe parts of a measure.  By the end of our unit, students will be able to divide whole objects into equal parts and identify the parts using fractional names (Halves, Thirds, Fourths, Fifths……)

What better way to celebrate the coming of summer and learn about Fractions than to complete Fraction Sundaes.  The students task was to build a sundae with many different flavours and then to represent these flavours as fractions (eg. 2/10 of the scoops are Mint Chocolate Chip!).

Take a look!

June 4th-7th

June 4th-7th

June is here and only 4 weeks left of school.  The students in 3L had a successful week completing EQAO testing and we are happy to have that completed.  This week, Fun Fair is the big event on Friday.  We are still looking for volunteers to help out on this evening.  Hope you can make it! This Wednesday, is officially Walk/Bike to School Day.  However, Mrs. Raymonds class has challenged Rousseau to walk/bike to school every day this week.  Every day your child does this, our class will receive a sticker.   The class with the most stickers collected will receive a free ticket for the fun fair for an activity or craft.  With the bigger picture in mind, lets all do our part to contribute to clean air!
