Purple Invader by Connor.c Carson

Purple Invader by Connor.c Carson

The purple invader A.K.A purple loosestrife this plant is taking over Canada. The sneaky seeds traveled by sheep on ships from Europe to Canada in the 1800’s. The instant they arived they started causing trouble. This plant is pink-purple and it’s flowers grow in long spikes. It can produce up to 2.7 million seeds a year. This purple invader grows mostly in wetlands, ponds, marshes, swamps and peat bogs.Purple loosetrife can turn wetlands to dry lands. Wetland animals and insects eat native plants but purple loosetrife spread and there is no land for the native plants to grow making it hard to survive for all animals because there is not any thing to eat. In Europe many bugs eat purple loosetrife but in Canada insects don’t have an intrest in it here. We need to stop this plant from speading!!!!! We have brought over the bugs from Europe that eat this evil plant! But we made sure they will not hurt any of our plants and animals. If you see a purple loosesrtife DON’T YANK IT OUT! The seeds will fall off so put a bag around it and make sure there is nothing left of the root.

The Purple Loosestrife is a evil plant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!!

This week’s forecast is much to be desired and let’s hope our little ones have the opportunity they had today to play outdoors.Students are invited to bring in board  and card games to play during their indoor recess periods which are expected for the rest of the week.  Also, please ensure your child has indoor shoes.  When just one student forgets the potential for the carpet area to become muddy increases.  The students enjoy working on the carpet as an alternative to their desks and we don’t want them sitting in dirt.  Thanks for your help with this!  Let’s keep our fingers crossed for rain free nutrition breaks!

Taylor Swift LIVE!

Taylor Swift LIVE!

What an exciting afternoon we had today in 3L.  Taylor Swift was part of a live global webcast titled “Read Every Day”.  She talked about the power of reading and the impact reading has made on her life.  We were thrilled to hear about her favourite books and which books have changed her!  Lots of discussion followed about what books we have read that we absolutely could not wait to get back to and why they were so addictive!   What an exciting opportunity  to be part of a global discussion!
